The IAPP AIGP stands for the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional. The purpose of the credential is to be awarded to people that are responsible for management and/or evaluation of artificial intelligence use in organizations as Privacy Officers, Compliance Officers, Risk Managers, Product Managers. It measures your knowledge of AI governance during its whole lifecycle.

This is how I would go about it if you are going to take the exam. Start with the IAPP Body of Knowledge since each question will be based on that. It has been segmented into four distinct domains, namely, the foundation of AI governance, laws and standards for AI, AI development governance, and deployment and use of AI. Then you can move on to learning the basics of AI. You don’t have to program anything, but you must understand the distinction between machine learning types, the impact of training data, and the origins of bias, hallucinations, and model drift.

The next step is to understand the main frameworks. For example, the EU AI Act with its risk categories is often cited, alongside the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, ISO IEC 42001, and OECD AI Principles. It’s important to understand their purpose and scope of application, rather than memorizing all of them by heart. Finally, learn the practical side: impact assessments, vendor due diligence, documentation, disclosures, human oversight, and incident response.

Once you have covered the topics, test yourself. I found that working through IAPP AIGP exam questions on CertBoosters helped me spot weak areas in scenario based items, which are common on this test. Review every wrong answer and go back to the Body of Knowledge to see why. Hope this helps anyone starting out. Happy to share more tips if you have questions.
